As a Finance major in the Villanova School of Business, the seventh best business school in the nation, Bell carries a 3.34 GPA and earned Dean’s List honors in 2010. Additionally, Bell has been a two-time Big East Academic All-Star, awarded to student-athletes who earn a 3.0 during an academic year.

Character

Bell is a consummate team player and has been named a team captain for Villanova this season. He is a vocal and emotional leader on and off the field and sets a tone for the entire team with his tireless work ethic. Bell has set lofty goals for himself and is dedicated to achieving his aspirations, which is clearly shown by his numerous accomplishments. Furthermore, Matt has regularly given back to the lacrosse community as a tutor and coach for youth athletes in Severna Park, Md., through their community recreation league.

Community

Bell is involved in many community service programs affiliated both with the university and in his personal life. At Villanova, he serves as an Awards Proctor for the Villanova Special Olympics Fall Festival, the largest student-run Special Olympics Festival in the U.S. He is also a four-year volunteer at the Villanova Day of Service, serving as a clean-up specialist in the nation-wide “Day of Service” event with the Augustinian Church and Villanova University. Additionally, Bell annually participates as a volunteer for The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Buddy Walk, a program developed by the National Down Syndrome Society to raise money for the national advocacy and public awareness initiatives of individuals with Down syndrome.

Competition

Bell enters his senior season on the All-Big East team after earning second-team all-conference honors as a junior. He has appeared in all 47 games of his career while making 32 starts as part of the first midfield line. Bell has career totals of 32 goals, 25 assists and 57 points. He’s also tallied 38 ground balls and caused two turnovers.
