Hamann graduated last May with a 3.37 GPA in Business. He now has a 3.65 GPA in Belmont’s Master of Sports Administration program. He is a four-time Atlantic Sun All-Academic honoree.

Character

Hamann has shown his character throughout his career at Belmont. On the field he has sacrificed his own individual achievements for the good of the team, redshirting his freshman year so that he could develop into a strong player for the Bruins. He also stopped batting as a two-way player so that he could become the elite pitcher that BU needed him to be as a junior and senior. Hamann became a true leader of the team as a junior, turning from setup man in the bullpen into the ace of the staff. His leadership on and off the field made him a captain for his senior season, which was voted on by his teammates.

Community

Hamann has helped out the Belmont and surrounding Nashville area in a number of ways during his career at BU. He and his teammates have led the Parkwood Clinics, which help local young children learn to play the game of baseball and have some fun. Hamann and his Belmont teammates regularly help out at the Nashville Rescue Mission, serving meals and helping out those less fortunate than themselves.

Competition

Hamann had one of the best pitching seasons in recent memory during Belmont’s historic 2011 run. The righty was named to the All-Atlantic Sun first team as one of three starting pitchers to receive the honor. His 9-2 record tied him for the most single-season victories in Belmont history, and his winning percentage of .818 is tied for sixth in program history. He also led the team with a 2.81 ERA and an opponents’ batting average of .238. He struck out 51 batters and only walked 28 on the year.
