An Academic All-Big Ten selection every eligible season, Hellickson is a finance major in Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. He carries a 3.3 cumulative GPA into the second semester of his senior year.

Character

A defenseman, Hellickson was selected to serve as an alternate captain as a senior and has been a member of the team’s leadership group in the past.

Community

Hellickson has been a three-year team representative on Notre Dame’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council. The Rogers, Minnesota native has also been part of Notre Dame Athletic Department’s steering committee for the past two years, in which a select group of student-athletes and administrators as well as Athletics Director Jack Swarbrick discuss and work through various subjects and challenges within college athletics.

He has also helped with Notre Dame’s Fight For Life program and the team’s Rally for Rudy initiatives as well as the department’s Fighting to Read, Fighting to Feed project aimed at promoting literacy and combating hunger during the pandemic in partnership with local educators and Feeding America.

Competition

An honorable mention All-Big Ten selection following his junior season, Hellickson has appeared in 127 consecutive games for the Irish dating back to the first game of his freshman season. In 127 career games, he has scored 12 goals and added 34 assists for 46 points (as of Jan. 1, 2021).

During his first season with the Irish, he was one of two freshmen who played regularly as they claimed the 2018 Big Ten regular season and tournament championships, also advancing to the Frozen Four and NCAA Championship game.

Last season as a junior, Hellickson scored five goals and recorded 11 assists in 37 games, with his five goals tied for the team lead among defensemen. He also led the Irish with three game-winning goals and blocked 81 shots on the season to lead the Irish and rank fourth in the NCAA.

Hellickson was selected in the seventh round (214th overall) by the New Jersey Devils in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and joined the Irish after skating with the U.S. National Team Development Program and Sioux City (USHL).
