Matt Lorito currently holds a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and is expected to graduate in May of 2015 with a degree in economics. He is an excellent student-athlete and is a three-time member of the ECAC All-Academic Team.

Character

Lorito has continued to set a strong example for the program and his teammates through his actions on the ice, in the classroom and in the community. After serving as an assistant captain as a junior, Lorito was elected as a captain for the upcoming season, a tribute to his leadership qualities within the program. He also serves as a Brown University Peer Advisor, helping freshmen with student-to-student adjustment into academics and student life.

Community

As an active member of the Brown and Providence community, Lorito has helped foster the men’s hockey program’s connection with the Vartan Gregorian Elementary School, where the team sends players to visit on a weekly basis. As a captain, Lorito made sure that the program played an intricate role in Brown’s Reading Week in Providence when players visited local elementary schools and read to multiple classrooms over a two-week span. In addition, Lorito will lead Brown hockey’s annual participation with the Movember Foundation, which is a non-profit organization that runs the global men’s health initiative, Movember.

Competition

A two-time All-Ivy selection, Lorito put together another impressive campaign as a junior. He finished with 29 points with 10 goals and shared a team high with 19 assists en route to All-Ivy Second Team honors. Lorito notched eight multiple-point contests, in addition to one short-handed goal and two power-play goals during the season. He had a breakout sophomore season in which he racked up 37 points on 22 goals and 15 assists. He was named Second-Team All-ECAC and First-Team All-Ivy and also earned a spot on the ECAC Hockey All-Tournament Team. In 89 career games, Lorito has earned 83 points (36g, 47a).
