Classroom

Committed to excellence both on the field and in the classroom, Meghan enters her final semester of undergraduate work carrying a 3.69 cumulative GPA. A Heath and Human Sciences major at LMU, she has been accepted (and will attend) the Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at Long Beach State in the fall of 2014. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Meghan would like to pursue a career in physical therapy, working with children or athletes. She has already begun getting her feet wet in the field, serving as a teacher’s assistant in an anatomy class during the gall of 2013, completing a summer internship at Sports Medicine Institute (SMI) in Los Angeles, and volunteering in the physical therapy department at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills.

Balancing the rigors of a full class load and Division I athletics, while maintaining success in both, is something Meghan prides herself in. She has made the Dean’s List/Honor Roll all seven semesters at LMU. She was named to the Pacific Coast Softball Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and earned her team’s highest GPA award in 2012. This past spring, the academic honors continued to roll in for Meghan as she was named the 2013 PCSC Scholar-Athlete of the Year while also earned selection to the 2013 CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District team.

Character

Meghan has proven to be a leader and role model on and off the field as a student-athlete at LMU. One of just two seniors on a team that includes 12 freshmen and 21 total underclassmen, Meghan has embraced her leadership role, understanding it will be key to the success of the team this spring. She is one of two team captains and leads both by her unwavering work ethic and constantly providing a positive voice. Her natural leadership has extended beyond the field of play as she has served as an LMU Student-Athlete Mentor (SAM), as well as working as a counselor/instructor at many of LMU softball’s camps and clinics.

Community

Meghan has consistently volunteered her time in the community, giving back both as a student-athlete and as a member of the LMU chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta. She is active in her sorority’s philanthropy “Kat at Bat,” raising funds and awareness for CASA (court appointed special advocates), has volunteered at the Never Ever Give Up (NEGU) Foundation (for pediatric cancer), volunteered in a 48-hour walk for SAGE Child Care Center, has delivered and made food for people on Skid Row and been involved in beach clean-ups.

Competition

Meghan enters her fourth and final season in a Lion uniform as, yet again, a key member of the team’s offensive and defense. A three-year starter, Meghan returns to hold down the fort at third base this spring, while also bringing one of the team’s most potent bats to the plate. In 2013, Meghan led the Pacific Coast Softball Conference in slugging percentage (.597) and home runs (9), while ranking top 10 in hits (52), RBIs (34) batting average (.338), runs scored (26), double (11), total bases (92) and walks (26).  She earned 2013 First Team All-PCSC honors as well as being named PCSC Player of the Week on March 13, 2013. The 2013 LMU Softball Athlete of the Year, Meghan enters this season ranked No. 9 in the LMU record book with 20 home runs and No. 9 in career slugging percentage (.480). During her first three seasons, the Lions have complied three straight 30+ win seasons, including a runner-up finish in the PCSC in 2013.
