Michaela Abam was named to the 2016 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, as well as the dean’s list, the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and WVU’s Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll. She currently shows a 3.04 GPA.

Character

Abam is one of two team captains for 2017. She is the consummate teammate with one of the biggest laughs and is a three-year starter and a three-year letterwinner.

Community

Abam spent the summer of 2017 volunteering with Mountaineer United Soccer Club, assisting coaches with clinics and matches. With the Mountaineers, she has made multiple visits to the WVU Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House. Additionally, she assists in the program’s efforts to raise money for breast cancer research through the program’s annual 4v4 tournament and individual fundraising.

Competition

Abam has paced WVU in goals each season and currently ranks No. 5 in program history with 34 career goals. She also ranks No. 9 with 82 career points. Prior to the 2017 opener, she was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, as well as the Preseason All-Big 12 soccer team, the TopDrawerSoccer.com preseason Best XI First Team and ranked No. 6 on the TDS.com preseason list. She was an NSCAA All-America Second Team honoree in 2016 as well as the Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Year. She is a two-time All-Big 12 First Team honoree (2015, 2016), a three-time Big 12 All-Tournament Team honoree and also won the 2014 Big 12 Newcomer of the Year Award. In 2014 she was named to the NSCAA All-Region Second Team and All-Big 12 Newcomer Team.
