Classroom

Daly has a 3.84 grade-point average. He earned first team 2010-2011 Capital One Academic All-District I at-large honors. He has made the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic team in every season. This summer he had an internship with Morgan Stanley Smith Barney in South Burlington, Vt.

Character

Daly is the lone captain of the team. He won the Joe Tomasello Unsung Hero Award given by the New England Hockey Writers. He earned the team’s Glenn “Spike” Crane Memorial Award for the second straight season, which is given to the player who excels most in the little things and leads his teammates by example. “Mike Daly is a vocal leader, but the best part is if people watch him play they will see what it takes to be a great player,” said Holy Cross head coach Paul Pearl. “His work ethic is second to none. We have never had a guy work harder.”

Community

Daly has volunteered for Catholic Charities at a Worcester food pantry. He is a member of Crusader for Kids which is a Big Brother program set up by the players to bring inner city kids to other sporting events on campus as well as in the community.

Competition

Daly has played in all but four games during his career with 128 games played on defense. He has played the most career games by any current Crusader. Daly has nine goals and 43 assists for 52 career points. He leads the team this season with 13 assists, while he is tied for first with 14 points as he has played in all 19 contests. Daly is tied for second in Atlantic Hockey in assists. His 14 points are fourth in the league by defenders. He is on the 2012 Hobey Baker Award fan ballot. The Crusaders’ 7-4-1 (.625) Atlantic Hockey record is their best after 12 games since going 8-3-1 (.708) in the 2005-2006 season. The Crusaders’ 9-9-1 (.500) overall record is their best after 19 games since going 12-6-1 overall (.658) in the 2005-2006 season. He was named to the Ledyard National Bank Classic all-tournament team and earned AT&T Crusader of the Week accolades in the 2009-2010 season, as he scored his first collegiate game-winning goal and had one assist for two points against Dartmouth as the team won 4-2. He received the Michael P. Quinn Award given to the best defenseman on the team over the course of the season also in 2009-2010.
