Classroom

Frongello maintains a 3.52 cumulative GPA, as a sociology major with an economics minor. A two-time academic All-Southern Conference honoree, he has a 3.89 GPA in his sociology major. Frongello is on pace to graduate cum laude and with honors in Sociology and plans to attend law school after graduation.

Character

Frongello was elected a team captain for the 2011 season. The team’s Most Valuable Pitcher during the 2009 season, he is president of Davidson’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council and a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa, the national leadership honor society. He is also the vice-president of Davidson’s Pre-Law Society, a member of the Phi-Delta Theta fraternity and the sports editor of the Davidsonian — the college’s student newspaper.

Community

Frongello is extremely active in the Davidson community. As part of the Davidson Elementary Lunch Buddy Program, he mentored at-risk children during the spring semester of 2009, having lunch every Friday with a promising fourth grader named Emerson. As a member of SAAC, he has been an active participant in Toys for Tots for the last three years, helping to organize the 2010 effort as president, which brought in over 500 toys. In December of 2009, he led the baseball team in purchasing Christmas gifts for three children as part of SAAC’s Angel Tree outreach, and has helped plan the group’s community event Cats’ Carnival for the past three years. As a member of Phi-Delta Theta, Frongello has helped design and sell t-shirts for Dunk a Delta for Diabetes to raise money for Diabetes research, and Bench Press for Breast Cancer to support breast cancer research. Also with Phi-Delta Theta, Frongello cleaned several rooms as a part of the Helping Hands for Haiti fundraiser in January of 2010 to benefit earthquake victims in Haiti, sold the voices of fraternity brothers and also contributed his voice to Valentine’s Songs for V-D Awareness each February to benefit local STD awareness and education groups. As a member of the baseball team, Frongello helped with the weekly set up for the Davidson farmer’s market during the fall of 2010, and he helped set up and publicize a Race for the Cure event.

Competition

Frongello entered the season as Davidson’s all-time appearance leader with 97 appearances and is chasing the Southern Conference record (136) in his final season. With 34 appearances as a sophomore, Frongello led the SoCon and set a Davidson single-season record in 2009. Frongello has led Davidson in ERA for the past two seasons. His 4.50 ERA ranked seventh best in the SoCon last season, and he held opponents to a .292 batting average, 14th best in the league. He ranks fifth in Davidson history with eight saves, including five from 2007 for the seventh-best single season in school history. Frongello enters his final season with a 4.93 career ERA and a 7-10 overall record in 133.1 innings, with 37 career walks to 86 strikeouts.
