Character

“In my tenure as a college athlete and coach, I’ve never been around a three-time team captain. I think this speaks to Mike Rastivo’s greatest attribute: his ability to connect with others. Mike is an exceptional leader; you hear people say that great leaders bring out the best in those around them, and Mike has a unique ability to connect with everyone in our program. Mike commands respect; he does not need to demand it. He commands respect because of the way he conducts himself and the way he treats people. Couple his natural leadership ability with his outstanding athletic accomplishment and you truly have a great example for others to follow.” – Head Coach Taylor Wray (Rastivo was voted a team captain this year, for the third consecutive season.)

Community

In Fall 2016, the Saint Joseph’s men’s lacrosse program participated in the University City Classic and raised $3,000 in donations toward HEADstrong in an effort to improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their families through providing essential programs and services. In Fall 2015, the Hawks hosted the first annual HEADstrong SJU Fall Scrimmage, through which the Hawks fundraised $3,000. Rastivo was involved with SJU’s Hawks for Cancer/HEADstrong t-shirt sales (2014-16) and organized and fundraised men’s lacrosse proceeds for the SJU Kinney Center 5k Walk/Run for Autism, which raised the most money of all groups for three consecutive years (2015-17). He participated in SJU’s Martin Luther King Day of Service for four consecutive years (2014-17), which involved cleaning up public trails and blocks and renovating elementary schools to benefit the local Philadelphia community. He also volunteered at the John C. Anderson Cultural Center Halloween Party for three years (2015-17) in an effort to help kids of the local community celebrate the holiday. In 2013, Restive also helped fundraise and create jersey auctions for the Wounded Warrior Foundation.
