Classroom

Texas middle blocker Molly McCage is currently majoring in Corporate Communications and has earned an impressive set of awards for her academic efforts throughout her time as a student-athlete. She was a CoSIDA Academic All-American nominee for the 2014-2015 academic year and she was named to the 2012-2013 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team. She is a four-time winner for the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll, six-time member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team and three-time member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

Character

McCage is a leader in every sense of the word. She comes to practice and works hard every day and has done so since she set foot on campus. She is welcoming and warm to the newcomers, while continuing to lead by example with her drive and determination.

Community

McCage has been involved with a multitude of community service projects and organizations. During 2014-2015 she volunteered with the Special Olympics and assisted with the Special Olympic volleyball activities and she helped with UT + Me Day where she demonstrated what volleyball student-athletes do in order to train for their sport. Since 2012 she has assisted with the SAAC Swimming & Diving Tailgate and the SAAC Soccer Tailgate, where supported both teams individually while networking with faculty members across campus. During 2013-2014 she assisted with the “Flat Stanley” project where students took pictures with “Flat Stanley” throughout the week to show Carpenter Hill Elementary School students what a day in the life a college student looks like; and helped run carnival booths for the elementary students and their families all day at the Boone Elementary School Spring Carnival. During 2012-2014 she participated with Texas THON in a 12-hour fundraiser to stand for kids who cannot stand for themselves, assisted with a volleyball clinic for fifth-grade students of Austin I.S.D. Play Day and participated in a free volleyball clinic for children of Austin. During 2012-2013 McCage organized team’s donations for the SAAC Canned Food Drive that benefits local Austin food pantries, demonstrated acquired sports related skills at the National Women and Girls Sports Day and mentored children in the after school programs at Woodridge Elementary.

Competition

McCage led the team in blocks (145) in 2014, finished with a .337 hitting percentage which was the team’s second-best mark that year. She was named to the 2015 All-Big 12 Preseason Team, 2014 AVCA All-America Third Team and 2012 Big 12 All-Freshman Team. McCage was a 2014 AVCA All-Region honoree and 2013 AVCA All-Region honoree and received 2013 AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors along with 2013 All-Big 12 First Team honors. McCage was also selected to the 2015 Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll and received 2013 AVCA All-American Honorable Mention honors. She was the Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week (Dec. 2, 2013) while also being named 2012 Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year. She was ranked No. 1 nationally by Prep Volleyball during that same year.
