Classroom

Wright will graduate in the spring of 2010 with a degree in sociology. A responsible student and self-advocate, Wright has been praised by the academic affairs staff for following through with her assignments and requesting and following through with additional support when necessary.

Character

Wright is recognized as one of the best players in the country and she also excels as a team leader both on and off the court. She has exceptional character and leads both vocally and by example. She is respected by teammates, coaches and administrators. She has an uncanny ability to lift the team in adverse situations. An emotional leader, her confidence is second-to-none, yet she remains humble and willing to do whatever is best for the team.

Community

Wright is a three-year member of the UVA Student-Athlete Mentors, a three-year representative for women’s basketball on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and a two-year representative on the ACC’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She was one of UVA’s nominees to the NCAA Leadership Conference twice. She is supportive of community activities such as the Shoot-Out for Cancer sponsored by SAMs, and other school-visiting activities.

Competition

Entering the 2009-10 season, Wright is a preseason first team All-American by Lindy’s and The Sporting News and on the preseason Wade Watch List and Wooden Award List.  As a junior, she was voted an AP Honorable Mention All-American, a WBCA Region 2 All-American and was a Naismith Trophy, Wade Trophy and Wooden Award finalist. She was also first team All-ACC and led the ACC in scoring (20.5 points per game). She set the single-season UVa scoring record (696 points). As a sophomore, she was an AP Honorable Mention All-American, a WBCA Region 2 All-American, a second team All-ACC selection and a member of the ACC All-Tournament Team. She was the captain of the U-19 USA Basketball Team. As a freshman, she was the ACC’s Rookie of the Year and a Gballmag.com Young All-American. She was also the ACC Rookie of the Week a school-record eight times.
