Alabama State middle hitter Myla Marshall is majoring in biology and holds a solid 3.30 GPA. She has made the 2015 Spring semester Honor Roll and Dean’s List. 

Character

Currently, Marshall is president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. In addition, Marshall is involved in a handful of clubs and positions, which include the following: Miss Biomedical Club, TPaIDA Medical Research Student, HPER Club, Alabama State University Golden Ambassador, Alpha Kappa Mu Honors Society, Biomedical Club, S.A.A.C. National Representative, NAACP Representative, Spanish Club, HOSA and National Art Honors Society. Marshall also has had experience as a Baptist South Medical Health Hospital Pharmacy technician, General Biology tutor and volleyball class instructor.

Community

Marshall has worked with a number of organizations throughout her time at Alabama State. Her community work includes the following: serving and cleaning the food pantry for the homeless with Salvation Army; assisting several times as a Zoo Boo helper with the Montgomery Zoo Boo; volunteering at ED Nixon while teaching the fundamentals of volleyball to elementary students; mentoring students at Bellingrath Middle School; assisting in building a playground with the Kaboom Experience Project; and helping out with the Montgomery Boys and Girls Club, where she participated in game activities with the youth in the program.

Competition

Marshall has been a key player for Alabama State throughout her time on the women’s volleyball team. During her junior campaign alone, Marshall garnered 2014 SWAC Co-Player of the Year, 2014 All-SWAC First Team (middle blocker), 2014 SWAC Tournament MVP and 2014 SWAC All-Tournament Team. She also became a member of the 700 Kill Club on 11/22/14 vs. Jackson State. In addition to her impressive titles, during her junior campaign she led SWAC in hitting percentage (.341) for players who had a minimum of three total attacks per set, ranked 89th nationally in hitting percentage, was fourth in SWAC in kills (290), led SWAC in total blocks (117) and was second in conference in blocks per set (0.88). Marshall also ranked eighth in SWAC in points per set (2.85).
