Steinwascher was one of only two members of the men’s soccer team to be selected to the 2014 Fall All-Academic Team. He was a recipient of the Academic Excellence Award for earning 3.0 GPA or better in each semester of first four years of college. As a business major, he is enrolled in five-year MBA program. Steinwascher received the UDM Athletic Department’s Titan Club Award in 2014-15, presented to a male and female student-athlete on the merits of athletic performance and academic excellence. A member of Beta Alpha Psi, he earned the Gary T. MacLean Expendable scholarship in 2014.

Character

Steinwascher was named team co-captain following the 2014 season. As a senior co-captain entering 2015, he is very vocal on the pitch, helping lead by example as well as organize the defense.

Community

Steinwascher serves as a VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Preparer) and has volunteered in soup kitchens.

Competition

Steinwascher was voted the 2014 Horizon League Goalkeeper of the Year and Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first player in league history to earn both awards in the same year. He was named first-team All-Horizon League in 2014 and selected as the Outstanding Defensive Player at the UNLV Nike Invitational as Detroit went 1-0-1 on way to winning tournament. The team MVP in 2014, Steinwascher helped lead the team to the lowest GAA in school history (0.89). He recorded seven shutouts last season and had a 0.95 GAA with a 79.3 save percentage. Steinwascher finished the 2014 regular season with league-high totals of 81.2 save percentage and the Horizon League lead (tie) with seven shutouts. He recorded four straight shutouts in 2014, was a six-time Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week, was selected to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team in 2012 and tallied 99 total saves in 2013, the most by a Titan goalkeeper since 1995. Steinwascher entered his senior season second in school history in GAA (1.29), third in total saves (256), third in wins (22) and third in shutouts (14).
