Classroom

Schiro has been a standout in the classroom, holding a 3.876 GPA while majoring in Biology. Her classroom performance, along with her excellent athletic abilities earned her Capital One All-Academic District II Second Team honors. She also is a two-time MAAC All-Academic Team honoree. Schiro has been named to the Dean’s List every semester and is a member of the Tri-Beta Honors Society. She also was named to Loyola’s illustrious Green & Grey Society, which honors excellent academics and leadership.

Character

Schiro has been a leader both on and off the field since she stepped on to campus her freshman year. She was unanimously voted captain by her teammates during the spring of her sophomore year, which speaks volumes about how she is viewed by her peers. She leads by example with an unmatched work rate on the practice field and in the classroom. She is always positive, but also holds her teammates accountable. She has inspired the team to get involved with numerous charitable acts, including the St. Jude’s Cancer walk and the Craig Willinger Fund.

Community

Schiro has used her status as a collegiate athlete to make an impact in the Loyola and Baltimore communities. She tutored underclassmen in science classes, volunteered at Mercy Hospital,  volunteered to coach an under-11 girls soccer team, participated in the St. Jude’s Cancer walk, assisted with Loyola’s Women in Sports Day and helped with the Craig Willinger Fund to support cancer research. Along with that, Schiro participated in the Polar Plunge that raised money for the Special Olympics, volunteered for a soup kitchen and is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Council.

Competition

Schiro is a two-time MAAC Offensive Player of the Year award winner, and enters her senior season as the all-time leader in goals scored at Loyola with 37. She scored 15 her sophomore year, which ranks as the second most in a single season at Loyola, and 13 as a junior in 2011. Schiro sits second in career points with 85, and has 14 career game-winning goals, the most in Greyhound history. She also has been named to the All-MAAC First Team twice in 2010 and 2011, earned a MAAC All-Rookie Team nod as a freshman in 2009, and was named to the 2011 MAAC All-Tournament team. Schiro is entering her second year as captain of the women’s soccer program, helping the team to 37 wins, one MAAC regular-season title and one MAAC tournament title.
