Nick Cuthbert completed his undergraduate degree in December 2015 with a 3.968 GPA. He began graduate school in January 2016, and he carries a 3.80 and is on pace to finish in May 2017. Cuthbert earned CoSIDA Academic All-America honors in 2015, two CoSIDA Academic All-District selections and was named MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week on two occasions in 2015. Cuthbert earned the George Eastman Outstanding Criminology and Justice Studies Undergraduate Student Award and is a two-time recipient of the team’s Leo Strang Award for academic achievement. Cuthbert also was selected for the Read Athletic Endowed Scholarship.

Character

Cuthbert has served as a game captain. He made a full-time adjustment from safety to linebacker in the 2016 offseason but has played five different positions on defense. Cuthbert holds multiple team weight room records among non-linemen and is considered a leader among the team’s linebackers.

Community

Cuthbert is a nominee for the Wuerffel Trophy and the All-State Good Works Team. He is a three-year participant in Walk a Mile in Her Shoes raising awareness about the serious causes, effects and remediation’s to men’s sexualized violence against women. Cuthbert has volunteered at the Stow Food Pantry and has participated in Fridays with the Flashes at local elementary schools. Cuthbert has served as a football youth clinic volunteer and officiated flag football games for campus organizations. Cuthbert also is Green Dot certified for violence and bullying prevention.

Competition

Cuthbert earned MAC East Defensive Player of the Week honors in both 2014 and 2015. He has 98 career tackles and has been Kent State’s nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy, awarded to the best college football player to start their career as a walk-on. Cuthbert was also named Hometown Bank Student Athlete of the Week.
