Nick Jones was named to the 2017-18 NCHC Academic All-Conference Team in his first season at North Dakota and named an NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete. He also received UND’s Ralph Engelstad Men’s Hockey Endowment.

Character

In his first season after transferring to North Dakota, Jones received the team’s Cliff “Fido” Purpur Award, which is given to the player who exemplifies hard work, determination and being a creator of excitement on the ice. Now entering his second season with the program, Jones was voted an assistant captain by his teammates.

Community

Jones has been active in the community since arriving in Grand Forks, graciously giving his time to organizations including North Dakota Special Olympics, the North Dakota Champions Club and North Dakota Jr. Champions.

Competition

Jones emerged as one of the top players in the NCHC in 2017-18, leading UND with 15 goals and ranking second on the team with 30 points. Both were career highs for Jones despite having missed six games due to injury. He also led the team in shooting percentage (24.2), tied for the team lead in game-winning goals (4) and tied for second in power-play goals (5). Additionally, Jones won 59.3 percent of his faceoffs, the third-best single-season mark in UND history.
