Classroom

Sarkodie is a two-time academic All-Big Ten selection and was named 2009 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. He was also named to the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-North/Central Region honorable mention team and has been on the HPER and IU Dean’s list for five straight semesters. Sarkodie is an Arthur Ashe award nominee.

Character

Sarkodie is a team leader, always willing to go the extra mile to help someone out, including his teammates and the media. Sarkodie is a high-level soccer player with a professional future but passed up an opportunity to turn pro after his sophomore year to continue his education and work with his teammates toward the goal of a national championship.

Community

Along with his teammates, Sarkodie works at various local youth clinics throughout the year.

Competition

Sarkodie has started 58 of 61 career games. As a junior, he started all 24 matches in central defense and was named to the Big Ten Championship all-tournament team. He was part of a back line that helped record 10 shutouts on the season, including eight over top 25 teams. He recorded his first career goal at St. John’s in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament. He was named preseason All-American by College Soccer News and Soccer America. He has led Indiana to the NCAA Tournament in each of his three seasons, including a trip to the quarterfinals in 2008.
