Classroom

Galati was named the Colonial Athletic Association’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year in softball for 2012 after posting a cumulative 3.57 grade-point average. She was also named a 2012 All-American Scholar Athlete by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, which required a player to achieve a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2011-12 academic year.

Character

Galati is looked to as one of the leaders on the team, serving as both the team’s No. 1 pitcher and third hitter, playing a pivotal role in the lineup even in games in which she doesn’t pitch. Galati has been active in offseason workouts and in mentoring two new pitchers on the squad entering the 2013 season.

Community

Galati joined her teammates on the Pride softball team to make special trips to Long Beach in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, helping homes and families who were impacted by the storm. They also helped neighbors in clean-up efforts, and combined with the U.S. Armed Forces in organizing and distributing donated goods to families in need.

Competition

Galati went 34-7 with a Division I-best 0.95 ERA while becoming the first Hofstra player to win first-team NFCA All-American accolades. She led Hofstra to the program’s first-ever appearance in the Super Regional, putting the Pride within a single victory of reaching the Women’s College World Series. She won 32 straight games at one point (one off the Division I record), encompassing a 3-0 performance to lead Hofstra to a win in the Los Angeles Regional that included victories against No. 12 overall seed UCLA and two wins against San Diego State. Olivia led the nation with 17 shutouts and recorded 378 strikeouts in 280.2 innings. Galati also batted .345 with 11 doubles, four homers and 37 RBI’s and became the first Hofstra player to earn first-team All-CAA honors at two positions.
