Classroom

Dowling maintains a 3.15 GPA in history with a minor in Spanish. He’s studied abroad in Spain twice — Madrid in 2008 and Granada in 2010 — and at Delaware he serves as a Spanish tutor. Dowling is a three-year member of the Colonial Athletic Association academic honor roll and has also made the school’s Dean’s List.

Character

Dowling, who was a team co-captain last season, received Delaware’s annual Gary Celeste Award for spirit, dedication and enthusiasm. In his hometown of Fairfield, Conn., Dowling works with young people as a camp counselor and coach.

Community

A two-year member of Delaware’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council, Dowling has attended monthly meetings to discuss athletics policies of both the school and NCAA. He helped organize UD Student-Athlete Day, which serves as a social gathering for all of the student-athletes on campus, and he has also volunteered with the Special Olympics. During the 2008 and 09 Thanksgiving breaks, Dowling went back to his hometown and helped run a lacrosse tournament that raised money for wounded soldiers coming home from Iraq (Sticks for Soldiers).

Competition

As a junior, Dowling led the Fightin’ Blue Hens to the CAA tournament title and a berth in the NCAA tournament. He was honored on the All-CAA second team after making the first team as a sophomore. For his career, Dowling has recorded 93 groundballs and a school-record 48 forced turnovers.
