Classroom

Rogers maintains a GPA of more than 3.9 in Finance. Last season, Rogers was awarded the Elite 88 at the NCAA Tournament, which recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. Rogers hopes to attend medical school after graduation.

Character

Rogers epitomizes the definition of hard work. After graduation from Jesuit High School in Portland, Ore., he made the decision to attend DU without a guarantee of playing collegiate lacrosse. During his first quarter, Rogers tried out for the men’s lacrosse team, then under the direction of coach Jamie Munro. His hard work and tenacity earned him a spot on the team for the 2009 season. After a coaching change in the summer of 2009 that brought the legendary coach Bill Tierney to DU, Rogers had to once again prove that he deserved a spot amongst those collegiate athletes who had been recruited. Rogers’ work ethic impressed Tierney and he earned a spot as one of the Pioneers’ go-to players during the 2010 season. Rogers credit’s Tierney’s influence on him becoming a better lacrosse player and an even better citizen in the community.

Community

Rogers came to DU with a wealth of community service under his belt and has continued to dedicate himself to the community through various projects. With the help of his teammates, he has participated each year in the 9News Food Drive, which raises money and collects food and donated household items to refill the depleted food banks in the Denver area. Rogers has also made numerous hospital visits to comfort and spend time with children who are unable to spend time being kids and he has assisted in the renovation of a local Boys & Girls Club. One of the most special community-service activities that Rogers has taken part in is his work with the Denver City Lax program, which brings the sport of lacrosse to under-privileged inner-city kids. Just a few months ago, Rogers took part in a lacrosse clinic for disabled youths in the community.

Competition

Rogers came to DU as a student first, athlete second. Last season, he saw action in 10 games for the Pioneers, starting in one, and recorded four goals off 11 shots on goal before being sidelined with a broken foot. As a walk-on, he saw action in 11 games, starting in one, during his first season with the Pioneers. He recorded four goals and one assist. In his second season, Rogers saw action in all 17 games for the Pioneers, earning a starting spot in 10 games. He scored 20 goals and logged five assists. For his career, Rogers has scored 28 goals and has recorded six assists in 35 games at DU. He’s projected to have another impact season for the Pioneers.
