Classroom

Paula Germino-Watnick holds a 3.801 GPA, which is good for the second highest on the team. During the 2019-20 school year, she is conducting research on the Estrogen Receptor implicated in breast cancer. This past summer, she was selected as a Ruesch Summer Fellow at Georgetown’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center and shadowed oncologists, conducted clinical research on the effects of liver transplantation on ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, and followed patients through their cancer treatments. In the summer of 2018, Germino-Watnick interned at the Survey, Recruitment, and Bio-Specimen Collection Share Resource at Georgetown’s Hospital where she helped run non-therapeutic clinical research studies. Between the summers of 2015 and 2017 she worked in a molecular biology lab that focused on mitochondria and used drosophila as a model at the National Institutes of Health.

Character

Germino-Watnick is no stranger to adversity or setback. Of any of the players that Georgetown has had, Germino-Watnick’s continue growth and determination has been the steadiest and most pronounced. She is humble in defeat and outspoken in accountability when she has to own up to her own mistakes and shortcomings. Her character shines through in her care and concern for things that she is passionate about and in her commitment to excellence on the field and in the classroom. Her teammates admire her work ethic and her quiet leadership through example, witnessed in her unwavering effort every day. Through every stumble, Germino-Watnick has risen and been a key leader in connecting and unifying the team.

Community

Germino-Watnick has been very active in the community while at Georgetown. During the summer of 2018, she volunteered in Georgetown’s hospital, escorting patients to doctor’s appointments. Since the summer of 2014, she has assisted high school coaches with youth athletes in a local summer camp. She has been a member of Relay for Life since 2018, as well as a member of the American Cancer Society fundraising committee. She has also participated in Cycle for Survival since 2016, raising money and awareness for rare cancers.

Competition

Germino-Watnick has appeared in 69 games so far for the Hoyas. She has recorded 34 points from 13 goals and eight assists in her career at Georgetown. She was selected unanimously to the 2019 Preseason All-Big EAST Team, and in 2018 she ranked third on the team with 22 points. Germino-Watnick was named to the All-Big EAST First Team and the United Soccer Coaches All-East Regional Third Team in 2018. She was also ranked No. 26 on the 2019 Top Drawer Soccer Preseason College Soccer Player Rankings.
