Peter Schneider has a double major in finance and economics with a minor in actuary in Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business. A six-time Dean’s List student, he had a 3.96 grade-point average to start his senior year after capping his junior year with the second 4.0 semester of his academic career. As a junior, he was selected to the Capital One Academic At-Large All-District team. A two-time winner of Notre Dame’s Rockne Student-Athlete Award (2013, 2014) for the hockey team, he was a member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s All-Academic Team in 2013 and then was chosen to the Hockey East’s All-Academic Team in Notre Dame’s first year in the conference following the 2013-14 season.

Character

Peter Schneider will serve as one of two alternate captains on the Notre Dame hockey team in 2014-15 and is the lone senior among the team captains. A native of Vienna, Austria, Schneider is just the fourth European to play hockey at Notre Dame. He is a member of the team’s leadership group and has been instrumental during the summer and early fall in indoctrinating Notre Dame’s large, 10-man freshman class to the university and the world of college hockey. He also is a member of Notre Dame’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Community

Schneider is involved in various community service projects with the Notre Dame hockey team throughout the season. During his career, he has been active with the Irish Youth Hockey League (IYHL), working with local hockey groups, teaching and helping to grow the game in the local area. He has participated in team activities like the Buddy Walk for kids with Downs Syndrome and has participated in Habitat for Humanity. This fall the team has been active in the Learn to Play program for beginning hockey players at the Compton Family Ice Arena.

Competition

A three-time monogram winner at Notre Dame, Schneider has played in 97 career games for the Irish, scoring 15 goals with 16 assists for 31 points. He is coming off the best year of his career in 2013-14, when he had career highs in goals (8), assists (8), points (16), shots on goal (85), short-handed goals (1) and game-winners (2). He has been a member of one CCHA championship team (2012-13) and has participated in two NCAA Championship tournaments (2013, 2014). He competed for Austria in the World Under-18 Championships (2009-10) and is a two-time member of Austria’s World Junior teams (2010, 2011). Schneider came to the United States to play for the USHL’s Indiana Ice (2010-11) and scored 30 goals with 24 assists in 55 games and was selected to play in the 2011 USHL All-Star game.
