Classroom

Phil Bannister is on pace to graduate in December with a degree in marketing and public relations. Bannister, who maintains a 3.48 GPA, is a two-time member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic team, a four-time Dean’s List honoree and a 2009 NSCAA Academic Regional All-American. He also made the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America third team in 2008 and the organization’s All-District teams in 2008 and 2009.

Character

Bannister holds himself to high standards, both on and off the field. A team captain this season, Bannister, is a vocal leader who often leads offseason workouts.

Community

Bannister, who moved to the United States from England, has helped bridge the gaps between international players and those who are from the United States. On the Loyola campus, Bannister has been involved with a campus ministry organization that visits homeless in downtown Baltimore to provide essentials such as toiletries, water, snacks and clothing. After a snowstorm in February 2010 that hit the Baltimore area with 50-plus inches of snow, Bannister led a group of Loyola soccer players who helped shovel neighborhood residents out from sidewalks and driveways. He also led a drive on campus to provide T-shirts and pants to an orphanage in Brazil.

Competition

Bannister was honored as a third-team All-American by Goal.com following a season in which he led the nation in assists per game. A two-time NSCAA Regional All-American and three-time All-MAAC honoree, Bannister enters his senior season tied for third all-time at Loyola with 28 assists. He also has 30 goals.
