Character

Raph is an extremly unselfish and humble player despite his All-America status. In fact, he voluntarily gave up his scholarship aid from LSU to allow the coaching staff the opportunity to recruit more players into the program.

Community

Rhymes annually participates in youth reading programs and youth baseball clinics in the Baton Rouge area. He is involved in the Buddy Walk to raise awareness of Down Syndrome and the ALS Walk to help in the fight against Lou Gehrig’s disease. Raph has also worked with children at the Miracle League field in Baton Rouge, a baseball facility specifically designed for young people with physical limitations.

Competition

Rhymes was the nation’s leading hitter in 2012 with a .431 (100-for-232) batting average. He was voted 2012 Southeastern Conference Player of the Year by the league coaches, and he was named a first-team All-American. He led the SEC in hits and on-base percentage, and he was No. 5 in the conference in RBI. Raph was also a finalist for the Dick Howser National Player of the Year Award, and he was named to the ABCA All-South Region team.
