Character

Nominated by his coaches for the Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) to represent the men\‘s lacrosse team in 2008 and 2009, Hoff’s duties as a SAAC representative include meeting monthly to discuss academic, athletic and community issues within the Notre Dame Athletic Department.  He was also chosen by his peers as SAAC Vice President for 2009 season.  Ryan is a member of Rosenthal Leadership Committee and served as the head coach of ‘Chicago Lax’ summer lacrosse club team in Chicago during the summer of 2007.

Community

As a Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) representative Ryan is in charge of organizing and recording community service events and hours for lacrosse team.  He advised on a planning committee for ‘Fit For Fun’ community service event in South Bend; an event that taught local community kids how to stay physically and mentally fit.  In addition, he has been a member of the Jefferson Secondary School Mentor Program from fall 2006 to present day and has mentored one ‘high-risk’ male student at Jefferson Intermediate School in South Bend for the past three years.  An interesting side note about the mentoring program, Jefferson has had no expulsions of male students since program was instituted by the Notre Dame lacrosse team.  The Fighting Irish men’s lacrosse team won the 2008 Notre Dame Community Service Trophy as a result of the team committing 1,087 community service hours, which is 1/4 of all community service hours recorded by student-athletes at Notre Dame.  Hoff is also a member of the team that volunteered in eight non-profit organizations including Bike for Uganda, Fit For Fun, South Bend Reads, Walk for Diabetes, Memorial Hospital\‘s Hematology/Oncology Christmas Party and the toiletry drive for the South Bend Center for the Homeless.
