Ryan Kerrigan, who studies math education, was a second-team Academic All-American in 2009. He’s also a two-time Academic All-District and Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
Character
According to coach Danny Hope, “He is as genuine and polite a young man as I have had the privilege of being around in my coaching career. He puts team before self and makes time for everyone, whether it is signing an autograph or granting an interview.”
Community
Kerrigan is active in the team’s annual blood drive, visiting schools and assisting with the local chapter of the National Football Foundation, among other initiatives.
Competition
Kerrigan’s efforts as a junior, including tying for tops in the country with seven forced fumbles, earned him a spot on the All-America second team. He also made first-team All-Big Ten and was voted the team’s MVP after leading the conference in sacks. Kerrigan is tied for fifth on Purdue’s all-time sacks list with 21.
