Ryan Mahrle

Classroom

Will graduate with a degree in finance and currently carries a 3.68 GPA. He has made the Dean’s list six times over his Bronco career and been a member of the Bronco Honor Roll seven times.

Character

Mahrle’s character shows through in the example he sets on and off the ice. He is active with the program’s Blue Line Club and he sets an example in the classroom as well as on the ice, serving as one of the team’s captains.

Community

Mahrle and the rest of the Bronco hockey team are very active in the community as a continuing part of Western Michigan’s effort to give back to Kalamazoo, as this is the home of Bronco student-athletes during their careers. Mahrle takes part along with his teammates in various events with youth from the area from Halloween nights, to pizza parties to help with the hockey booster Blue Line Club.

Competition

He has been a two-time WMU Neil Smith Defenseman of the Year Award winner and was named the WMU Suzanne Klop Rookie of the Year Award winner in 2003-04. Was the top scoring defenseman on the team in 2005-06 with 18 points. Mahrle has helped the Bronco defense hold the opposition to 20 percent when on the power play this year. He leads the team in scoring as a defenseman with 12 points (1-11). He has had three multi assist games this season and is currently skating with a plus/minus of +9.
