Smith is a two-year team captain for RMU, having earned the honor both in 2020 and 2021. Last year’s team was tabbed the NEC West Division favorite and his leadership helped the team get off to a 4-2 start before the COVID-19 pandemic brought a halt to the season. Smith has been instrumental in helping grow the game of lacrosse at the local level and back home in Ontario, having led as a volunteer coach at Pine Richland High School and with the United Lacrosse League.

Community

Smith has volunteered his time to many different local organizations and events. He has volunteered with the Mooncrest Neighborhood After School Program, a painting project of Shouse Park, and a roadside clean-up of I-376. Smith also gives back to the game of lacrosse, having served as a volunteer coach at both Pine Richland High School as well as the United Lacrosse League in his home province of Ontario.

Competition

Smith has been a key figure in RMU’s recent run of success, helping guide the team to consecutive NEC Tournament championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2018 and 2019. He is a three-time All-NEC selection, picking up a pair of second team nods in 2018 and 2019, and was named NEC Rookie of the Year in 2017.

He owns or shares the single-game program records in goals (8), assists (6), and points (11), accomplishing the latter two milestones on March 2 of this season against Bellarmine. He also has garnered USILA/Dynamic Division I Team of the Week accolades twice in his career, being named to the 10-man squad once in 2020 and 2021.

Smith currently ranks second at RMU in career points (175), third in career points per game (2.87), fourth in career goals (112) and assists (63), fifth in career goals per game (1.84) and assists per game (1.03), eighth in career starts (51), and ninth in career games played (61).
