Classroom

Thang owns a 3.241 grade point average in finance at the Mendoza College of Business at Notre Dame.

Character

Thang will serve as Notre Dame’s team captain for the 2009-10 season.  As a junior, he was one of the team’s alternate captains and is a true team leader both on and off the ice.  His enthusiastic style of play extends to his leadership style and causes his teammates to respond in a positive manner.

Community

Thang has been involved in all aspects of the team’s community service efforts throughout his career.  For three years, he has participated in the annual Buddy Walk for kids with Down’s Syndrome and the university’s Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Christmas Party with Memorial Hospital.  Last year, the team was involved with South Bend’s Robinson Center in an after-school program to teach kids how to play hockey.  He has been a part of the team’s IYHL Mite Skates, working with the community’s youth hockey program, and he has participated in the CCHA’s annual Hockey is Fun Clinic for two years.

Competition

Thang is recognized as one of the top scorers in the CCHA.  He has tallied 48 goals with 44 assists for 92 points in 122 games through his first three seasons.  His 21 career power play goals are 11th on Notre Dame’s all-time list while his 13 game-winners put him in a tie for first at Notre Dame.  As a junior, he had 10 goals and nine assists for 19 points.  Thang was selected in the fourth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators.
