Classroom

Ryan Tucker has been on the ACC Honor Roll the last two years he has been at UVa. He holds a 3.215 cumulative GPA and will graduate in May. Tucker has been named to the All-ACC Academic Team the past two seasons and is a very dedicated student who possesses impeccable integrity, ambition and character, and who understands the importance and value of an education. He will graduate in four years from Forbes’ No. 2 public non-military college, despite the rigors of the men’s lacrosse schedule.

Character

Tucker is a high-character individual and was voted by his teammates as one of UVa’s four captains. He always has time for those around them, whether its the fans after a game or the media. He brings the same class and character to post-game interviews in both victory and defeat. Much of his character can be defined in his community outreach.

Community

Tucker is an active member of UVa’s A.C.E. program: Athletes Committed to Community and Education. He volunteers weekly at Southerland Middle School and works with seventh-grade social studies classes. He also is involved with various community outreach programs including teaming up with UVa men’s lacrosse teammates to handle race logistics for the annual Gene Arnold Memorial Virginia Area 3 Special Olympics Pepsi 10K Run. Tucker is involved with two other community outreach programs that were born during his time at UVa by former UVa lacrosse players and has helped continue their run. Lacrosse Mustache Madness was founded in 2009 to help awareness for prostrate cancer. In the past five years the money raised has gone to the HEADstrong Foundation, which funds cancer research and supports families and survivors of blood cancer. Tucker has been a part of that outreach four of the six years of its existence, and the event has raised over $600,000 since Nov. 1, 2009. The second outreach Tucker has worked with during his UVa career has been the Will Barrow Memorial Flag Football Tournament. The tournament helps raise funds for the underfunded UVa HELP Hotline, which is a suicide prevention service through UVa’s Madison House.

Competition

Tucker is a Preseason Third-Team All-American and was the No. 4 overall selection in the 2015 Major League Lacrosse Draft to the Boston Cannons. He became the 18th first-round MLL Draft pick from UVa, which is the most all-time of any school. His 53 career goals place him in the Top 20 all-time at UVa among midfielders.
