Sam Foltz was on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll (Fall 2014, 2015; Spring 2013, 2015, 2016) and awarded the Nebraska Honors Academic Medallion for 2015 and 2016.

Character

Prior to his tragic passing this summer, Foltz was among the elite student-athlete leaders within the University of Nebraska Athletics Department from 2012-2016. In addition to earning his degree in Agronomy from Nebraska before the start of his senior campaign, Foltz was a standout in the community and across campus. He was a member of the Inner Circle Leadership group during 2015-2016, providing the opportunity to enhance existing leadership qualities and network with letter winner alums.

In 2016, Foltz won the Nebraska Hero Leadership Award and was named to the 2016 Nebraska Tom Osborne Citizenship Team and the 2016 Nebraska Brook Berringer Citizenship Team.

Community

A four-year member of Uplifting Athletes, Foltz was joined by his teammates to raise money and awareness regarding pediatric brain cancer. Foltz helped coordinate the annual Uplifting Athletes Road Race, which, in the last three years, raised in excess of $100,000. Foltz volunteered annually during his career for the annual Thanksgiving Hospital visits, “School is Cool” Week and American Education Week. He also volunteered to assist with the Souper Bowl of Caring Food Drive, Soles for Souls Shoe Drive, and the annual Husker Heroes event impacting special-needs children and their families.

This past spring, Foltz earned the Hero Award for his consistent commitment to community service. Starting in April 2017, the Hero Award will be named the Sam Foltz Hero 27 Nebraska student-athletes who his leadership qualities.

Competition

Foltz was on the 2016 Ray Guy Award Watch List and recognized as the Eddelman-Fields Big Ten Punter of the Year for 2015. He also was a 2015 first-team All-Big Ten (Coaches, Media, AP, Phil Steele, ESPN.com) selection and on the 2015 Ray Guy Award Watch List. Foltz was honorable mention All-Big Ten 2014 (Coaches)? and Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week (vs. McNeese State, 2014, at Illinois, 2015) as well as apart of Big Ten All-Freshman Team 2013.
