Sam Lafferty

Business, Entrepreneurship and Organizations

Sam Lafferty currently holds a 3.27 grade-point average and is expected to graduate in May of 2018 with a degree in business, entrepreneurship and organizations: economics. An excellent student-athlete, Lafferty is a three-time member of the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team.

After serving as a junior assistant captain last season, Lafferty was once again elected as an assistant captain by his teammates for the 2017-18 campaign, a tribute to his leadership within the program. Lafferty has continued to set a strong example for the team on and off the ice.

As a junior assistant captain last season, Lafferty has been a consistent ambassador for Brown hockey within the university and the surrounding Providence community. He oversees the program’s annual connection with the Vartan Gregorian Elementary School, where the team sends players to visit a dedicated classroom on a weekly basis, and will continue to serve in that leadership role this year. He also contributes regularly to the program’s participation with local youth organizations and clinics.

Lafferty put together a breakout junior season when he led the Bears in points (35) and assists (22) in all 31 games played, en route to All-ECAC honors. He also ranked second on the team with 13 goals and averaged 1.13 points per game, earning team MVP accolades. Lafferty, a Pittsburgh Penguins draftee, also earned second-team All-Ivy honors and was named a semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award, presented annually to the best American-born college hockey player in New England. A talented multi-sport athlete, Lafferty was also a member of the Brown golf team for the previous three seasons.
