A fifth-year senior, Sarah Segan earned her degree from W&M in the spring graduating with a degree in kinesiology and health sciences with a concentration in public health and a minor in biochemistry. She rounded out her major with a 3.47 cumulative GPA.

Character

It doesn’t matter what aspect of life she is operating in, Segan takes a leadership role. She has been a two-year team captian elected by both her teammates and coaching staff, and she has been a huge help in ushering in a new coach in her second year. Segan also has held many coaching jobs in which she has volunteered her time with youth soccer players, including her current role in which she coaches a 10-year-old ADP team. Finally, she was the Athletics Outreach Exec. member and had that position for two years. Within those two years, TribeTHON has raised more than $100,000.

Community

Despite her busy schedule, Segan still finds time to give back to the local community. As a team, she leads the Tribe women’s soccer team efforts with the local Legacy Soccer Club in a partnership program to help influence young soccer players. She has also been involved with volunteer coaching with kids and is currently with ADP, a development program for 10-year-olds.

When she is not volunteering with her team, Segan also has given back to the community through her sorority, Chi Omega. The sorority’s philanthropy is the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The sorority puts on two events for the organization, Wing for Wishes and Make a Splash, and Segan participates in both.

Finally, she is an executive member for the student-run organization Athletics Outreach, which hosts TribeTHON—a dance marathon that raises funds for the local Miracle Network hospital, the Children’s Hospital of the Kings Daughter (CHKD). She has been an Athletes Outreach Exec. member for two years. Within those two years, TribeTHON has raised more than $100,000.

Competition

One of the Tribe’s top players since taking the field as a redshirt freshman, Segan has led W&M in goals scored every year of her career. Last year, she led W&M in goals (6) assists (4) and points (16) on her way to first-team All-CAA honors. For her Tribe career, she has amassed 25 goals, 10 assists and 60 points. Her best single-season in goals came as a freshman when she netted 10. She has been honored as an All-CAA selection in each of the previous three seasons. She has been named to the CAA Rookie Team, CAA Second Team twice and the CAA First Team as a junior. Segan was also selected to the CAA All-Preseason Team prior to this year.

This season, Segan has been limited due to an injury but does have a goal in three appearances.
