Classroom
Monfort has established a 3.80 GPA in chemical engineering at Bucknell. He has made the Dean’s List every semester, is a member of the Tau Beta Pi engineering honor society, and is a three year member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. He is a member of American Chemical Society and is conducting undergraduate research on the process of creating biodiesel from algae oil He has done internships with NexTech Materials, Cherokee Pharmaceuticals and Pfizer.
Character
On a team full of talent, Monfort, despite playing the unglamorous long-stick defensive midfield position, was elected team captain by his teammates. Head coach Frank Fedorjaka says, “Scott is a great leader. He is a quiet, hard-working, no-nonsense type of captain. He obviously knows our defense very well, and on the field he can be very vocal when he needs to be. He is an outstanding long-stick defensive midfielder, and as a chemical engineering major with a 3.8 GPA, he is the definition of a student-athlete.”
Community
Monfort serves as the team representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He also coordinates the team’s community service efforts, which includes the Americans Supporting Americans, Harvest Soup Kitchen, Ronald McDonald House, Colleges Against Cancer 5K Run, Bucknell AIDS Walk, and Adopt-A-Highway cleanup. He also has helped with youth lacrosse camps and been on numerous school visits.
Competition
Monfort has lettered in each of his first three seasons at Bucknell and in 2009 was one of the leaders of a defense that ranked 12th in the nation in scoring defense. He assisted his school in winning the 2009 Patriot League regular season title.
