Sean Mannion has graduated with a bachelor’s of science degree in liberal studies—posting a 3.14 cumulative GPA. He currently has a 3.69 GPA in pursuit of his Master’s Degree in interdisciplinary studies with options in sociology, political science and history. He has been selected to the Pacific-12 Conference Academic Honorable Mention Team twice.

Character

The easiest way to describe Sean Mannion’s character is to state that he is the first three-year team captain in the history of the Oregon State football program. To add, Mannion was selected a three-year team captain by his teammates with no involvement by the coaching staff. Sean is without a doubt a leader on and off the field, participates in numerous off the field activities around campus and is one of the most visible students at Oregon State University. He has matured from a wide-eyed freshman who rarely spoke to the team spokesman for the last three years. He is always the first person to conduct media interviews win or lose and is a mentor for the younger players on the team. He also was Oregon State’s spokesman for the 2014 Pac-12 Media Day in Hollywood.

Community

As the starting quarterback and university leader, Sean Mannion is an extremely visible and busy individual. Yet, Mannion has still carved time out of his busy schedule to participate in numerous community service activities. He regularly participates in the annual Boys and Girls Football Clinic at Oregon State. He also has participated in a local community outreach program that benefited local children at Christmas and mentored at a local elementary school. He has served as a camp counselor at Foothill High School in California as well as the Manning Passing Academy and the Elite 11 Quarterback Challenge—all involved working with high school youth.

He set the Pac-12 record for single season yards last year with 4,662 yards. He also will easily break into the top 10 for career passing touchdowns in the Pac-12, currently with 68. He holds numerous Oregon State records. Mannion has an opportunity to be only the second quarterback in Conference history to be named the league’s offensive player of the week in four different seasons. He captured the Manning Passing Academy Air-It-Out Challenge in the summer of 2014 as well as the Nike Elite 11 QB Challenge. He is a 2014 preseason “watch list” member of the Walter Camp All-America Team, Maxwell Award, Davey O’Brien Award and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. He was a Football Writers Association Freshman All-American in 2011. Mannion was also a 2013 Pac-12 Conference Honorable Mention selection.
