Classroom

McCoy has earned a 3.77 GPA in biology, good enough for Dean’s List honors every semester at VMI. He holds Virginia Military Institute’s Carroll Award, and is a three-time member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s All-Academic team. He is a member of several honors societies including the Beta Beta Beta biology honors society. He hopes to one day commission into the US Army and become a doctor in the Armed Forces.

Character

The two-time team captain has been a Bible Study mentor and an Art Coordinator for VMI’s Ring Figure Design team. He has held rank for two years in the Corps of Cadets. His current rank of 1st Battalion S-6 Lieutenant places him second-in-command among the Corps in regards to its interaction with NCAA athletics.

Community

McCoy has volunteered serving with a program that helps VMI food services collect and distribute food to underprivileged persons in the local community. He also serves as the head goalie coach for the local high school lacrosse summer all-star team.

Competition

A three year starting goalie for VMI, McCoy was named team defensive Most Valuable Player in both 2007 and 2008. He earned the Worrell-Fallon award, an honor given to the MVP from each team in the Keydets’ fall scrimmage. In 2008 he helped the team make its first ever post-season appearance. He currently ranks fifth in all time saves at VMI with 387.
