Classroom
Singletary is a sociology major and is currently on schedule to graduate in May of 2008. Although his primary goal is to play professional basketball, he is also interested in a career in real estate following graduation.
Character
Singletary has been a team captain each of the last two seasons and is a recognized leader on a 2007-08 Virginia team that has 11 players who are either freshmen or sophomores. He is an extremely hard worker, overcoming injuries his first two seasons to become a two-time first-team Atlantic Coast Conference selection and an All-American.
Community
Singletary mentors a youngster in the Charlottesville area (elementary school age), has visited a children’s rehabilitation center with the team and has worked basketball camps.
Competition
Singletary earned several All-America honors last season, including third-team All-America recognition by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). He was a first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection each of the last two years. He averaged 19.0 points, 4.7 assists, 4.6 rebounds and 33.2 minutes played a game last season. Singletary ranked second in the ACC in three-point field goals made (79, 2.47 a game) and free throw percentage (.872, 190-218), third in scoring (609 points, 19.0 ppg.), fifth in assists (151, 4.7 apg.) and 10th in minutes played (1,064, 33.2 mpg.) in 2006-07. He ranks fifth on Virginia’s career three-point field goals made list (164), eighth on the career assists list (385), tied for 10th on the career steals list (140) and tied for 18th on the scoring list (1,426 points). Singletary is seeing his hard work pay dividends in his senior year as well. He has been named to the mid-season candidates for both the Wooden and Naismith Awards.
