Sierra Bonham, goalkeeper for North Dakota State University, holds a cumulative GPA of 3.485 coming into her fall semester. She is on track to graduate this spring with a bachelor’s degree in human development/family science and social work and has been named to the Summit League Fall Academic Honor Roll for the second time in a row as well as being a Summit League Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence honoree. Bonham has earned the North Dakota State Bison Academic Performance Award in 2014-15 and 2012-13 and the Bison Academic Achievement Award in 2013-14 for her achievements in the classroom.

Character

Bonham was voted as a team captain by her teammates for the second consecutive season.

Community

Bonham has been very active in the Fargo-Moorhead community throughout her time at North Dakota State University. Last fall and spring, she volunteered as a Big Sister in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program and assisted with the program’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake event. She has also volunteered with Churches United in Moorhead, Minn., and the YWCA. Along with her teammates, Bonham has volunteered for the Streets Alive event and the Special Olympics and Samaritan’s Feet organizations in Fargo-Moorhead. Last summer, she and her teammates participated in the Miles for Murphy GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for Mercer University women’s soccer player Kim Murphy. Murphy’s father died of a heart attack last winter and shortly after her mother lost a long battle with cancer. The team collectively ran 381 miles in five days and raised $3,000 for Murphy.

Competition

A four-year starter and letter winner in goal for the Bison, Bonham was named the Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year in 2014 after leading the league in save percentage (.827) and ranking second in goals-against average (0.94), shutouts (5.1) and shutouts per game (0.28). She is a three-time All-Summit League honoree, earning first-team honors in 2014 and second-team accolades in 2012 and 2013. She was a Summit League All-Freshman Team selection in 2012. Currently, Bonham ranks second in NDSU program history in saves (309), goalie minutes played (4,920) and goalie games played (55), is tied for third in wins (23), fourth in shutouts (12.1), fifth in saves per game (5.62) and seventh in save percentage (.803).
