Classroom

Simon Denis is a two-time WCHA All-Academic Team selection. He is highly active in the school’s sports communication program where Denis served as the team’s representative on the Ferris State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). Denis is one of the team leaders both on the ice and in the classroom, where he is a decorated student-athlete as a Dean’s List honoree and is active in many campus organizations and events. Denis takes pride in helping to support other student-athletes and teams.

Character

Denis is the recipient of Ferris State Athletics 2014-15 Jimmy Swears Courage Award for his comeback after a potential career-ending spinal injury. He remained an integral part of the program while injured and is a two-time team captain. Denis received Ferris State’s 2013-14 Willie Bouyer Leadership Award for one of top student-athletes in the university and has assisted athletics communications program in social media, marketing and promotional efforts.

Community

Denis has been one of the Bulldogs’ most active participants off the ice. He annually assists with a number of the team’s community service endeavors. These include working the last three summers assisting the Ferris State Athletics department’s marketing and sales efforts and spearheading the Bulldogs’ annual involvement with the area Special Olympics hockey team. Denis was a driving force and creative mind behind the school’s first-ever “Pink in the Rink” game that benefited the Susan P. Wheatlake Wellness Center and raised support for breast cancer awareness. Playing an integral role in efforts related to FSU’s “Military Appreciation Night” contest, Denis assisted in marketing, sales and promotions to honor veterans.

Competition

Denis has played in 109 career games where he has totaled 45 points on eight goals and 37 assists in his four seasons. He is a four-year letter-winner, multi-year starter and ranks as one of team’s top scoring defensemen. Denis helped lead the team to the NCAA Frozen Four and National Championship game as a freshman. He has been a member of two NCAA tournament and conference championship teams. Denis played in 35 contests and tallied 14 points on three goals and 11 assists while ranking as the team’s top scoring defenseman in 2014-15. Denis is a three-year letter winner and participated in the Detroit Red Wings’ NHL Development Camp scrimmage two years ago. As a sophomore he played in 37 contests in which he registered 17 points on four goals and 13 assists. Denis played in 30 games and tallied 13 points on a goal and 12 assists in his freshmen season.
