Steven Scheu has a cumulative 3.324 GPA and has been a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll all three years. On track to graduate in December 2015, Scheu completed a 2015 summer internship in the finance department at Ingram Industries and a 2014 summer internship in the accounting department at MediCopy Services. He plans to seek master’s in business administration.

Character

Scheu is coming back from a serious ankle injury that occurred on March 11, 2015, during spring practice. After surgery on March 13, he has made a full recovery and is starting at tight end. Scheu also has been a member of the football team’s 2014 and 2015 leadership councils.

Community

Scheu has made multiple visits to see patients at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital and has visited patients at St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis. He actively participates in the annual Vanderbilt SAAC holiday party for underprivileged children in Nashville, is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, has volunteered at Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home in his hometown of Evansville, Ind., has read to underprivileged children as part of the Upper Room program in his former hometown of Kansas City, and this summer Scheu volunteered with football team members to clean up the grounds at a local park in Nashville. Scheu also joined his teammates in speaking to children at a local elementary school in Nashville.

Competition

Scheu was selected to the 2014 All-SEC Second Team (Associated Press). He had 39 catches and 525 receiving yards in 2014, which ranked first among SEC tight ends in catches and second in yards. Scheu’s 525 receiving yards were the most by a Vanderbilt tight end since 1983. Scheu is Vanderbilt’s active career leader with 56 catches, 693 receiving yards and six touchdowns and has been part of bowl teams in two of his three seasons. He has career highs of six catches and 83 yards, with his longest reception being 44 yards.
