Sydney Wiese is the 2017 Pac-12 Scholar Athlete of the Year, and a CoSIDA Academic All-America Third-Team selection. The senior is a thre-time Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team honoree and has completed numerous activities outside the classroom as well. Wiese has worked with fellow Oregon State students to put together her own web series on campus and has also pursued opportunities in public speaking by serving as the PA announcer for a number of athletic events.

Character

Wiese is a leader for the team both on and off the floor. She leads the team by example and is one of the players Head Coach Scott Rueck looks to who can provide the squad with guidance. She is also highly regarded by media, administrators, teammates and the general student body. As the face of the program, Wiese has carried herself with unparalleled class and has provided a great example for young people in Corvallis.

Community

Wiese has worked extensively with local organizations in Corvallis. She, along with her teammates, have spent time at the local Boys and Girls Club and have worked with Candlelighters for Children with Cancer. Additionally, she has volunteered by helping underprivileged youth in south Corvallis as part of a team community service effort. Wiese also donated her hair to cancer patients in a special “Haircuts for Cancer” ceremony following Oregon State’s game vs. USC in February.

Competition

Wiese has been selected as an ESPNW Second Team All-American, and is one of 14 player in Pac-12 history to earn All-Conference honors all four years of her career. The senior is the Pac-12’s record holder for career 3-pointers, and is Oregon State’s record holder for career assists. Wiese is among the top-six in Oregon State history for career points. She has made the Pac-12 All-Tournament team the last two seasons, and has helped Oregon State win three-straight Pac-12 regular season titles. The Beavers are 104-23 in games Wiese has played over the last four years.
