Tanner Beason is a management science and engineering major who owns a 3.23 GPA and is a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention selection.

Character

A two-time team captain, Beason is the unquestioned leader of college’s most successful program over the last half-decade. Stanford has won three of the last four NCAA titles, five consecutive Pac-12 championships and posted a 79-14-18 (.793) overall record since 2014.

Community

Beason is a Partners for Academic Excellence (PAE) mentor at Stanford, assisting student-athletes in managing their demanding schedules and helping them to prepare for future employment opportunities through professional development. Mentors facilitate weekly small-group meetings with a wide-ranging curriculum. He is also heavily involved with Stanford’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), serving as the co-president of the social events committee and co-leader of the group that organizes “The Stannys,” an award show and student-athlete performance event.

Competition

The redshirt senior defender has started every one of the 69 matches he’s played in his career, with 17 goals and 10 assists. Beason was a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist in 2018 and is a projected top-pick in the upcoming MLS SuperDraft. He is on a number of watch lists this season, including the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List, and was named to the Top Drawer Soccer Preseason Best XI First Team, the College Soccer News Preseason All-America First Team and the All-Pac-12 Preseason Team. He was a first-team All-American as a redshirt junior and also was named both the Pac-12 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first in conference history to receive both honors. Since Beason hit the field in 2016, he has anchored a Cardinal defense that has posted a 0.52 goals-against average, including 42 shutouts.
