Taylor Lockwood carries a 3.528 GPA in nursing and balances a full class schedule along with dozens of hours of clinicals each week. As a result, Lockwood is forced to miss practice two days a week to complete her clinical hours to remain on pace for graduation. Following graduation, Lockwood plans to pursue a career in the nursing and health industry.

Character

Lockwood is a well-rounded student athlete who is dedicated to setting and achieving goals. Not only is she committed to setting a high standard for her team, but also she aspires to be the best nurse she can be. She is one of the toughest and most competitive student-athletes to play for Indiana State, and she demonstrates great leadership qualities that will ensure she will be a champion the rest of her life. Lockwood is a three-year team captain for Indiana State and has established a leadership role outside the world of athletics as well. Throughout her nursing clinical, Lockwood serves as the lead nurse for her shift group.

Community

Lockwood has been instrumental in leading members of the Indiana State softball team to participate and raise awareness for the Susan G. Komen Race for a Cure event for breast cancer awareness in the Terre Haute area. Lockwood also organized a change collection throughout the 2015 Sycamore softball team’s season through which team members donated change after each game. The collected money was then donated to the local chapter of the Boys and Girls Club.

Competition

Lockwood led the Sycamores to the program’s first-ever NCAA Regional last season as well as team’s first-ever postseason win. Throughout the 2015 post season, Lockwood held a 1.63 ERA and 4-1 record over 34.1 innings pitched including a 1.20 ERA in the NCAA Regional over 11.2 innings pitched. Lockwood also was named the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player as she led the Sycamores to the team’s first conference tournament title since 1986.
