Theo Di Pauli von Treuheim

Classroom

Theo Di Pauli von Treuheim was the 2014-15 Union Athletics Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He has received the team’s Thomas Van Arden Award for Highest GPA in each of his previous three seasons and holds a cumulative 3.97 GPA through his junior year. He has received ECAC Hockey All-Academic recognition in each of his season (freshmen are not eligible). Di Pauli von Treuheim received the Barry Goldwater Scholarship, Tau Beta Pi’s Engineering Scholarship, the Four Year Michael R. Novack Scholarship and is also candidate for the Rhodes Scholarship. He also received the NSF-REU Fellowship Grant and is the vice president of the Tau Beta Pi’s engineering honors society, and a member of the National BMES Society. Di Pauli von Treuheim takes pre-med requirements to go to medical school and speaks fluently in English, Spanish, Italian and German. During the summer, he pursued research at biomedical laboratories at UCLA Orthopedics Hospital and the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. 

Character

Di Pauli von Treuheim’s success in the classroom and his remarkable service to youth and the community is a shining example of the impact a student-athlete can make on the lives of others. He has been a role model to his teammates with his classwork and the numerous scholar awards that he has received.

Di Pauli von Treuheim has helped the program in many facets through his community work, exceptional grades and in the amount of time he has given his teammates through tutorial sessions. He is an excellent example of a student-athlete who puts others on his team ahead of personal goals. He is the ultimate teammate and represents Union Men’s Hockey with pride.

Community

Di Pauli von Treuheim is the co-founder of the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorder at Albany Medical. He visited and established a friendship with terminally ill children prior to home games and invited them to meet the team after the games. As a role model for Hockey in Harlem, he inspires young, underprivileged inner-city youth hockey players to pursue an education and sport-focused lifestyle. Di Pauli von Treuheim also serves as a tutor and proctor as he organizes after-hours sessions to recap and reinforce lecture material and aid with homework for various subjects of study, including writing, mathematics and economics. He serves as a men’s ice hockey representative with Union’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Competition

Di Pauli von Treuheim played for the Under 18 United States National Team prior to attending Union. He was a captain of the Chicago Steel of the USHL and helped Team USA earn a silver medal at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament. He was a member of Union College’s NCAA Division I Championship team in the 2013-14 season.
