Classroom

A Dean’s List student in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, Brandt was named Academic All-Ivy during the 2010 season and was also named Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area. Not content to focus his abilities on just his own work, Brandt also spends his time as a Peer Tutor, working with fellow calculus and psychology students at Penn.

Character

Named a tri-captain of the Penn soccer team during his junior season in 2010, Brandt will return this fall for his second stint as a captain for the Quakers.  Always ready to volunteer his time for others and willing to put himself out there in the public eye, Brandt has performed in the Penn Athletics Talent Show, helping raise money for local charities. This past spring, Brandt was selected to the Sphinx Senior Society at Penn, a group chosen by current group members based on “achievement, leadership, commitment and character.” This summer, Brandt was chosen from a large group of applicants for an internship at Barclays Capital in New York City as a Sales and Trading Analyst. Brandt also serves as the current Co-Event Chair of the Undergraduate Economics Society at Penn.

Community

A very involved member of the community, Brandt volunteers at the Lighthouse Vocational Services Center in New Holland, Pa., where he helps serve hot lunches to participants with developmental disabilities who are learning life skills and engaging in job placement program and works extensively with the annual Christmas Party. While interning in New York, Brandt also took part in clean-up programs in the local parks. In addition, he spends time participating in Penn’s Teams for Toys program. Another area where Brandt spends time in the community is back in his home community where he is an Outdoor Educational Counselor for seventh graders.

Competition

In his freshman campaign, Brandt was a member of the Ivy League champions before playing his way to Philadelphia Soccer Six All-Star honors in 2009. In 2010, Brandt was named first-team All-Ivy and first-team NSCAA All-Region in addition to ECAC All-Star honors while earning weekly honors as Ivy League Player of the Week, ECAC Defensive Player of the Week and TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week along the way. One of two players to start all 19 matches in 2010, he was second on the team in goals with five from his center back position.
