Thomas Walkup has been a consummate student-athlete during his days at Stephen F. Austin. A two-time Southland Conference All-Academic First Team member (2014-15, 2013-14) and a 2012-13 Southland Conference All-Academic Second Team selection, Walkup graduated in December of 2015 with his bachelor’s degree—well ahead of of his teammates and other classmates.

Character

Walkup has matured into a leader both on and off the court for SFA. The coaching staff leans on him to serve as an on-court coach and as the face of the team both at a local and national level.

Community

Thomas Walkup is a fixture in the Nacogdoches, Texas, community service scene. He has spoken and visited local schools such as Laneville High School and the SFA Charter School. He also has performed community service duties/functions at the following events: First United Methodist Church summer carnival, Scare in the Square, Nacogdoches Blueberry Festiva,; Christian Women Job Corp 5K Fun Run.

Competition

In 2014-15 alone, Walkup crafted a resume most would be hard-pressed to put together in a career. An AP honorable mention All-American and a Lou Henson All-American that season, Walkup took home Southland Conference Player of the Year, Southland Conference Tournament MVP and first-team NABC All-District 23 team honors following the ‘Jacks latest history-making season. Walkup led SFA in scoring (15.6 ppg), rebounding (6.6 rpg) and field goal percentage (.567) in 2014-15. In 2013-14, was part of a Lumberjack squad that set a school and conference single-season record with 32 wins, extended its home winning streak to 33 games, led the nation with 14 overall road wins and 12 consecutive, made a third round appearance in the NCAA Tournament and entered the contest with UCLA (3/23) as the nation leader with a 29-game winning streak. His personal accolades in 2013-14 included Southland Conference All-Defensive Team, Southland Conference Tournament MVP and All-Southland Conference Third Team. All in all, Walkup has helped the Lumberjacks win three straight regular season Southland Conference titles and appear in two NCAA Tournaments.
