Tim Kubel has accumulated a 3.688 cumulative GPA while majoring in finance with a minor in marketing entering his final season at the University of Louisville. With a strong understanding of processes and the ability to use formulas to reach a result, an academic focus in finance combines both the strengths and interests for him. The academic work has a been a high priority for him throughout his time in Louisville, and that emphasis has allowed him to find tremendous success in the classroom. His academic honors include NSCAA Scholar All-America First Team (2016) and the All-ACC Academic Team (2014, 2015).

Character

Chosen by his teammates and coaching staff as a team captain, Kubel has embraced his role as a leader both on and off the field. An important emphasis for him on this year’s team is guiding the younger guys in a way that prepares them to fill his role as a leader after this season. He also wants to enjoy his time on the field and share that joy for the game with his teammates. He strives to enjoy each day he has at the University of Louisville, and he hopes that joy is contagious. He aims to impact the moods and feelings of the people around him in a positive way and to do so as often as possible.

Community

Giving back to the community both locally and internationally through the game of soccer is very important to Kubel. While at Louisville, he has participated in the Coach for College program, which allowed him to connect with disadvantaged youth in rural parts of developing countries who have difficulties accessing higher education with student-athletes at American universities. Following his freshman season at Louisville, Kubel visited Vietnam and the camp of Hoa An for nearly four weeks. Having the opportunity to spend time with children and other student-athletes, he described the experience as a humbling experience. Said Kubel: “It helped me appreciate things so much more. Even the small stuff…they really touched me a lot. Competition

Entering his final collegiate season, Kubel had scored 15 goals with 19 assists in 63 career starts. During his junior season, he was an NSCAA Second Team All-America selection and was a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist after scoring three goals and matching a school record with 11 assists while starting all 22 matches at right back. He was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Best XI First Team, All-ACC First Team, ACC Championship All-Tournament Team and NSCAA All-South Region First Team. In 2015 he earned All-ACC First Team. In 2014 he earned ACC Freshman of the Year, All-ACC Second Team, and NSCAA All-South Region First Team.
