Classroom

An outstanding student, Montelli has been named to the all-Atlantic Coast Conference academic team in each of the past two seasons for maintaining more than a 3.0 GPA and being a primary player. He also garnered ACC Honor Roll recognition as a sophomore and junior.

Character

Montelli is an outstanding leader. He was voted team captain by his teammates for the 2011 season and was a major leader on the field as a junior.

Community

Montelli is heavily involved in the Ronald McDonald House as he and teammates frequently go over to the house to cook meals for the families staying there. He also helped run free clinics for inner city kids, teaching them lacrosse. He and other players also spend time with children at the Duke Children’s Hospital.

Competition

A key member of the defense as a long-stick midfielder, Montelli has been a crucial component to Duke’s success during his career. He has played in every game each of the past two seasons, helping Duke to a 31-8 overall record and ultimately the 2010 NCAA championship. As a junior he ranked second on the team in caused turnovers and also had 35 ground balls. He scored four goals in 2010 and has six for his career. Overall, he has played in 49 games and has helped Duke to allow fewer than nine goals per game during his career. This offseason he was selected in the fourth round of the Major League Lacrosse collegiate draft.
