Character

Voelkel has been one of the most respected members of the Hofstra Men’s Lacrosse team and the Pride Athletic Department since his arrival as a freshman in 2013. In addition to his two-year selection as the Hofstra Men’s Lacrosse team captain, he was also selected as a member of the Hofstra Athletics Student-Athlete Advisory committee as a sophomore. Last summer, he served an internship with Deutsche Bank, which resulted in a full-time employment offer in the asset management area for this summer.

Community

As a team captain the past two years, Voelkel leads by example around his teammates and his fellow students at Hofstra University. Over the past two years, he has spearheaded several community service projects on the Pride men’s lacrosse team. He has been involved with the HEADstrong Foundation fundraisers, the Christmas Magic project on Long Island for underprivileged children, the Shake-A-Rake project in the Hempstead/Uniondale area to help elderly and needy people with their yards and lawns during the fall, and “Play Days” at the Viscardi Center for the physically challenged.

Competition

For the second consecutive season, Voelkel has been the pick of the Hofstra coaches as the Pride team captain. Voelkel has played in all 29 games over the past two seasons and has been a key member of the special teams unit as a defensive midfielder. He recorded his first collegiate point—an assist—in Hofstra’s overtime victory at Massachusetts in 2016. He has recorded three caused turnovers including two last season.
