Classroom

Bergstrom is a chemical engineering major who has a 2.9 grade point average. He is a two-time Academic All-MWC player and a three-time member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

Character

Bergstrom is one of the most personable and energetic players on the team. He has been singled out in interviews by both head coach Kyle Whittingham and quarterback Jordan Wynn for his leadership and work ethic. One of Bergstrom’s biggest obstacles is that he has had three different offensive line coaches during his time at Utah. He has had a positive attitude about the changes, and has enjoyed learning about different techniques from different coaches. Former Utah Ute and current Baltimore Ravens linebacker Paul Kruger has also spoken highly of Bergstrom. Kruger (whose sister Jessica is married to Bergstrom) says that Bergstrom is a moral person and a good guy whom he knew would respect his sister.

Community

Bergstrom in is his second year as a Student-Athlete Mentor for Utah’s student-athletes, guiding them on important topics about being a student-athlete, including substance abuse, nutrition and managing stress. He has also spent the last three years serving as a guest little league football coach during the summers. Before enrolling at Utah, Bergstrom completed a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was stationed in the Sacramento, Calif., area and spent time in the community doing service projects, including yard work. He also participated in a Sub for Santa program while on his mission. Bergstrom also makes hospital and elementary school visits regularly with the Utah football team.

Competition

An All-America candidate at offensive tackle, Bergstrom earned second-team All-Mountain West Conference honors in 2010 and this year he enters the season on the Outland Trophy watch list. Bergstrom has played in 36 games in his career with 27 starts, including starting all 26 games the past two seasons. Last year he led Utah on the line with 584 plays over the 10 games that were graded. He did not allow a sack in the regular season.
